Support for Sean and Megan Quinn

Seanie has the biggest heart in our family. His love for life is contagious. He is genuine, honest, and extremely loyal.  Seanie  married the love of his life, Megan, in September 2016. Just 2 months after that, at the age of 30, they found out he is was in end stage renal failure. Sean’s kidneys were functioning at only 7% and his body was becoming toxic. He spent 10 days in the hospital including 4 days in ICU where his care team tried to reverse the kidney damage with steroids and other drugs, which was not effective. He has been able to survive the last year and a half by intense dialysis treatments at the hospital. He is forced to drive to the hospital 3 nights a week for 4 hours each time and have the waste filtered from his blood stream. Sean’s only other choice for a normal life at this point was to find a donor for a kidney transplant. Naturally his older brother, Damien, stepped forward. Damien and Sean underwent 6 months of testing before they were told he was not a viable donor. The news was another blow to Sean and Megan who were only just starting their life together.

Due to the profoundly time consuming treatment of dialysis at the hospital, Sean began training for home dialysis. This would allow Sean to spend more time at home with his wife and dogs. This training required Sean to take classes at the hospital 5 days a week, 6 hours a day, for 3 months. He was obviously unable to work throughout that time.  Shortly after training started, Seanie and Megan found out they were pregnant with their first child. A little girl to be born near the end of summer. With a growing family and major health concerns, Megan’s Aunt Jean, graciously offered to try and get testing to be a donor for Sean. We couldn’t be more grateful to Jean and this selfless act for our brother. We soon found out the Jean was in fact a match and surgery would happen within only a few short weeks.

This all happened so quickly that Sean and Megan didn’t have time to prepare for him to be off work again for months to recover. It is our hope, that some of our friends and family out there might be able to donate to this young family. To help take some of the stress off Sean and Megan while he heals and Megan builds our niece. The money will be used for gas to and from the hospital for the next few months as well as wages he is losing from not being able to work this year. Thank you all for reading/sharing our story.

With love,
Damien, Rory, Hailey, & Amber
