Support for Scott and Smith Family
Donation protected
Scott Smith is a loving husband, father, son, and extended family member. He is devoted to his family, but equally as loyal to his friends and community. Scott coached daughter Mya’s curling rink to the North West Ontario. Finals last year, and is a volunteer fire fighter for the town of Blind River.
Scott loves fishing (whichever the season), the Toronto Maple Leafs, his dog Diesel, and his morning coffee.
On Saturday, October 20, Scott had a tragic accident. While at a family cottage, Scott fell from a height and broke his back. After initial assessment at the hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Scott was airlifted to Sunnybrook hospital with his wife Wendy.
Scott has had surgery to stabilize his spine; however the devastating impact of the fall has left him unable to feel anything below his waist. He has been told that it is unlikely that he will regain any feeling or be able to walk again.
Scott, Wendy, and family face a long difficult road of recovery and readjustment. Not only will there be medical treatments and rehab, but also the costs associated with new equipment, and renovating their home so that it is wheelchair accessible. In addition, since the medical care that Scott requires is in Toronto, there will be travel costs to get to and from the visits.
This page has been set up to help Scott, Wendy, and family with some of the financial costs - so that they can focus their energy on the healing process.
Please consider donating what you can can to help. It is appreciated beyond words.
Thanks!
Update: Due to the popularity of this
campaign, GoFundMe has asked that we ensure transparency of the following:
I (Jen (Clute) Lording) am the sister of Scott’s wife Wendy (Clute) Smith. Although Scott, Wendy, and family are from Blind River, On., I reside in Georgetown, Ontario.
I set up the campaign as a way to respond initially to the many offers to help, in order to support Wendy, Scott and their girls.
Funds raised will be accessed by Wendy (or Scott) and used for:
-travel/accommodation/costs associated with back and forth from Blind River for Wendy and the girls while Scott is in hospital/rehab in Toronto
-renovations required to make their home in Blind River accessible
-accessibility/mobility equipment that will assist with Scott’s needs and quality of life
-emotional/mental health and wellbeing activities
Thw ‘updates’ section of this page will be used to share how the fund has been used, and provide regular updates on Scott’s progress.
On behalf of Scott, Wendy, and Family, THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to, shared this campaign, and/or have reached out with words of encouragement. Hugs and thanks to all!
