This is my first time making a GoFundMe, so I'm gonna try my hardest to explain our situation.
About five months ago, Mark and I ran into some medical issues with one of our cats, Binx. He lost weight rapidly, and we found out he had a mass growing somewhere in his abdomen. I had to raise my credit card limit and use what money we had from our savings accounts to help pay for some kind of treatment. Eventually, in early November, we had to put Binx down.
Within that time, another one of our cats, Scarlett, began experiencing what the vets thought were allergies. She sneezed a lot, and over time it's only gotten worse. She had some dental issues to begin with, so we figured we could get some of her teeth removed because some teeth issues can lead to other issues within their body. We figured it was affecting her nasal passages, maybe irritating them. We took her to our vet, and they told us she had gingivitis, so they didn't remove all of her teeth, but most of them were removed. We had to get her fur shaved as well due to severe matting. All of that cost over $2,000.
After that, she was still normal, still sneezing a lot, but she was still eating and drinking as normal. We took her in for a four-week check-up to see if everything was healing as normal, and during that appointment, the vet had noticed that one of the areas they stitched up didn't heal correctly on the right side of her face, and they noticed that the left side of her face began to swell. They told us that it's not from the dental work. They sent us home with antibiotics, which did nothing for her. So at that point, we figured the swelling could possibly be a tumor or maybe even cancer. The swelling worsened with a small open wound now opened on her nose, and her left eye is nearly closed.
We took her to another vet to get a second opinion. They took x-rays of her face and had told us that the mass on her face wasn't hurting the bone in that area, and they x-rayed her lungs, which showed nothing of note to worry about in regards to anything spreading besides some bronchitis. They treated her with a shot that could help with the bronchitis and sent us home with some pain meds, which once again didn't get rid of any of her sneezing symptoms, nor did the swelling go down. The x-ray and meds with some bloodwork all cost around $700. They recommended that we take her to a different vet to get a CT scan and some more dental work so that they could fix the fistula that didn't heal correctly.
We took her to Scottsdale Vet Clinic, and they did the CT scan along with some extra dental cleaning. They didn't remove any extra teeth, nor did they fix the fistula because they had found that the reason for her face swelling was because the left side of her face was swelling due to dental complications from the initial dental surgery. They informed us that on the left side of her face, there is bone exposed and an infection happening in that area. Food gets trapped in that area, and it made the swelling worse. So this vet office didn't perform any fixes to her mouth due to not being comfortable with fixing such things with the infection going on. That cost about $500.
So now we have to take her to a different vet who's able to fix it, but the quoted surgery would be around $2,000+. They want to perform the surgery on January 28th, and with us still recovering financially from Binx, it's been hard to continue covering such high medical bills for Scarlett, especially since Amazon is capping my hours at work. I can't work more than 36 hours due to low work at the warehouse. If anyone could help, even just a dollar, we'd greatly appreciate it. We also understand that times are hard for us all, so even if you're unable to contribute, we totally understand. If there's any questions or anything that needs to be clarified, don't hesitate to reach out to me.
