Savanna’s Story
As many of you are aware, Savanna has faced significant medical challenges throughout her life. At the age of ten, she was diagnosed with diabetes, which has profoundly impacted her health and well-being over the years. She has experienced multiple complications related to her heart and kidneys, including a six-month period of dialysis. On Thursday, July 24th, Savanna’s mother attempted to wake her for breakfast, only to find her unresponsive. She was subsequently transported to Raleigh General, where a CT scan revealed severe bleeding on the brain. She was then transferred to CAMC in Charleston, where emergency surgery was performed to remove a portion of her skull and alleviate swelling in the brain. Additionally, a blood clot roughly the size of a small tangerine was removed. A follow-up CT scan on Friday morning necessitated a second surgery to remove more skull due to swelling. According to medical professionals, the bleeding and swelling were likely the result of a stroke caused by high blood pressure. Furthermore, severe damage to the left side of her brain has been detected, resulting in significantly declined reflexes. Considering the extent of her brain injuries and pre-existing medical conditions, the doctors believe they have exhausted all treatment options. Savanna has been on a ventilator and feeding tube since Thursday. After careful consideration, her family has decided to honor her wishes and not prolong her life in this manner. They have chosen to wait until the weekend, and if no improvement is observed, they will remove all life-sustaining machines and put it in Gods hands. This tragic situation has had a profound impact on Savanna’s family, particularly her six-year-old son, whom she will leave behind. Her parents are facing the unimaginable task of planning for her passing. In light of the impending expenses associated with Savanna’s cremation and funeral services, we believe that financial assistance would be greatly beneficial to the family. Any support provided would be deeply appreciated, and the family would like to extend their gratitude for the outpouring of prayers, texts, and calls during this incredibly difficult time.
