On the afternoon of August 9, 2025, my sister Sarah and her husband Matt’s home in Lewisville, Texas, was destroyed by a sudden and devastating fire.
At the time of the fire, Sarah was at work, their son Liam (13) and Matt were home, and their daughter Layla (20) was away at college. While we are incredibly grateful that Sarah, Matt, Liam, and Layla are safe, the family has suffered heartbreaking losses. Three beloved pets were lost in the fire, and one remains missing.
This is especially devastating for Sarah, who has spent years rescuing and fostering animals, giving countless pets a safe and loving place to land. Losing her own cherished companions in this way is beyond heartbreaking.
In just a matter of hours, they lost nearly everything inside their home — clothing, personal items, keepsakes, and daily essentials. While they are fortunate to have a safe place to stay with our mom, they are facing the overwhelming task of replacing what was lost and navigating the insurance process, all while grieving the loss of their pets.
The fire comes at an especially challenging time, with Liam starting school on Tuesday and already in the middle of football season. Replacing his school supplies, clothes, and gear is just one of many urgent needs as they work to rebuild their daily life.
We are setting up both an Amazon Wishlist and this GoFundMe to help cover immediate needs such as clothing, toiletries, food, and other essentials, as well as unexpected costs that arise in the weeks ahead. Every donation — no matter the size — will help them take the next step forward as they begin to rebuild.
