Love is a SodaStream for Sarah Liu

Hi, my name is Karen and I am fundraising for Sarah Liu. Sarah had leukemia as a teen and has endured decades of relapse and recovery. She has just entered palliative care for the effects of the needed radiation, chemo and surgery treatments she has undergone over the years. These treatments, while lifesaving, have left her with a medical dictionary's worth of issues: seizures, peripheral neuropathy, meningioma, nausea and more. Due to her health, she is no longer able to work.

Sarah has a PhD in English from UC Berkeley where she also taught. One short piece that she wrote titled Scrambled Eggs tells of a visit by her stepdad many years ago when she was in the hospital. It's a lovely tribute to him.

Sarah loves fizzy water - her only splurge. Her friends and I want to show her our love and care by getting her a SodaStream Terra system so that she can make her own at home. Any funds raised here will go to purchasing one for her. Additional funds will go to Sarah for other needs she will incur.

I met Sarah in 2014 when she was a new member of the Lake Merritt Joggers & Striders (LMJS). Sarah always has a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone she meets. Her quiet cheer covers an astounding spirit of persistence that has seen her through 26 full marathons and many half marathons. She is the strongest woman I know, and that is saying something!
