Sara Wilson has been a dear friend since our freshman year at the University of Michigan. Even after she moved abroad more than two decades ago, we stayed in touch, and we just saw each other just over a week ago. Sara is one of the kindest, most selfless people I know, always putting others before herself and building a beautiful life with her husband, David. Together, they created AlteArte, a beloved business in their community in Altea, Spain.
Tragically, David passed away suddenly from a heart attack on March 29, 2026. The shock and heartbreak have been overwhelming for Sara and everyone who knows her. While she is not one to ask for help, those of us who love her want to support her in any way we can. The funeral expenses alone were significant, and as Sara faces a difficult road ahead, we hope to ease some of her financial burden and give her the space she needs to grieve.
For those of us who don’t live nearby, giving a monetary gift is a gesture similar to those we would have made if we lived closer. We wish we could sit over a cup of tea, make her dinner, help with errands, or simply be there for her. This fundraiser is a way for Sara’s global community to come together and show our love, whether by helping with funeral costs, supporting the ability to honor his legacy with living her life fully, or simply letting her know she’s not alone. If you’re able, please consider donating, sharing this page, leaving a favorite memory of David, or a message for Sara. Your kindness and support will mean the world during this incredibly hard time.
4/10/26 update from Sara:
I am humbled and deeply touched by everyone’s generosity. I know that everyone is going through a lot so to reach out and support me - some anonymously - is a true indication of selflessness and it just warms my heart and is such a gentle reminder that I’m not alone.
Since David passed away on March 29th, I have been on autopilot, fueled by adrenaline and numbed by shock. He passed away in Spain where funeral arrangements are done immediately after one’s passing leaving no time to grieve or process. I traveled to Altea with my sister and arrived on the 31st. The following days were the longest and hardest days of my life but I got through them. So many friends reached out with love and support, and Jody set up this GoFundMe page. It was hard to even know what it was that I needed as I faced the daunting tasks that were laid before me. This support relieves the financial stress that I felt as I was faced with daunting funeral expenses and allows me to now just focus on processing my emotions.
I just returned to California where I will spend some time with my family before I return to work.
I can not thank you enough for this outpouring of love and support that you have shown me.
