In Loving Memory of My Dad, San Hin Saephan
Hi, my name is Abbey, and I’m San’s oldest daughter. Writing this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. My dad passed away after a brave fight with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and our family is heartbroken.
My dad was the strongest person I knew. He was a loving and devoted father to six children, and everything he did was for us. Even during his illness, he worried more about his kids than himself and made sure we felt loved and protected.
Some of my favorite memories of my dad are of him hunting and fishing. Being outdoors brought him peace, and those moments were when he was truly happiest. He loved sharing those experiences with us, teaching us, and just being present. That’s how I’ll always remember him—calm, patient, and full of love.
As part of our cultural funeral traditions, our family will be honoring my dad with a siep mien, a sacred send-off to the ancestors led by shamans. This ceremony is deeply meaningful and helps guide his spirit home, allowing him to reunite with our ancestors and find peace.
As we grieve this unimaginable loss, we are also facing overwhelming expenses from medical bills, funeral costs, and providing for my younger siblings. We are raising $20,000 to help cover these expenses and ensure my dad receives the proper send-off he deserves.
Any donation, no matter the amount, means more to our family than words can express. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers.
Dad, we love you forever. May your journey home be peaceful, and may you rest with our ancestors until we meet again.
