Newlyweds Sam and Taylor are caring, generous, loving, and all around amazing people, which makes you wonder why things have taken such a devastating turn in their lives. In May 2020, Taylor was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer; specifically wild-type glioblastoma (https://www.braintumour.ca/brain_tumour_types/glioblastoma-gb/). Imagine having your life completely flipped upside down at such a young age! Despite Covid-19 restrictions, they got married in August 2020. Unfortunately, since a clean MRI in November 2020, Taylor has another growth nodule on his brain, and additional growth spots on his spine. The tumour has unfortunately spread. He has had radiation 3 times. After radiation, oncologists recommended Taylor start MVASI (bevacizumab); a tumour starving therapy that is given as an infusion. This treatment is NOT COVERED in Ontario for glioblastoma patients, Sam and Taylor paid out of pocket for these infusions. Now, as the latest update states, there are no other treatment options for Taylor, and they is now having a palliative care team coming to their home for comfort measures.
This is a humble request to help Taylor on his long road to recovery and so that his family (including his immediate family Toby, Sharon, Kristen, and Ethan, and Sam’s immediate family Bill, Carole, and Jacqueline) can focus on him without the financial burden that goes along with something so unexpected and tragic. Sam has become Taylor's caregiver as he works through his diagnosis and works on getting his left arm and leg functioning the way they used to (before he had a stroke during surgery to remove the initial tumour). Taylor has made huge strides since the surgery, and both he and Sam are trying to focus on living life to the fullest, with a suddenly uncertain and unpredictable future. The prognosis is not good.
This GoFundMe was created last year, and the initial funding went toward helping them out financially with regular, everyday bills (as Taylor is unable to work and his drug plan’s annual maximum had already been reached in Jan 2021), paying for gas (while they drive to Sunnybrook Hospital and back for treatments and appointments), and other life expenses. When they had other costly treatment options, the next portion of the GoFundMe money was used for that. Let's make their lives just a little easier. Please consider donating.
