Hi, my name is Brittany and I'm writing about my sweet cat, Salem. He's a few months away from reaching his 12th birthday, and he's been a perfectly healthy boy his whole life. Although, a little over a week ago now, I noticed he was feeling under the weather—his eyes were leaking, his breath was short, he vomited, and he was lethargic, so I called around to all of the emergency vet clinics in my surrounding area to see if I could get him looked at. The closest ER that would accept him was about an hour away, so I rushed him over as fast as I could. During the past week, he's been back and forth to this hospital almost every day, plus he had one overnight stay with ongoing enema treatments. Eventually, he was referred to another hospital in that same region where he spent a two-night stay with the continuation of enemas and other special care. The first hospital diagnosed him with megacolon (a buildup of feces to where the colon gets so enlarged that the cat is unable to defecate on its own). The second hospital said he doesn't have megacolon, just constipation as well as pancreatitis and small intestinal thickening due to possible inflammatory bowel disease or even small cell lymphoma. He was sent home on the 4th of July with instructions from the doctor to keep him hydrated, fed, and medicated. It's only been a day, but he isn't touching his food (I've given him multiple options) or water, and it's an absolute struggle trying to get his meds in him. I'm praying his appetite will increase, which will help with the pancreatitis.
With all of this said, I am creating this fundraiser in hopes of financial help with all of his hospital bills.
Here is a list of some of the testing and hospital care that I was charged for:
- Numerous hospital visits
- Numerous enemas to help him defecate and unblock colon
- Pain meds, anti-nausea meds, sedatives, mild anesthesia, other fluids
- A handful of X-rays
- Ultrasound
- Multiple blood tests
- A one and a two-night hospital stay
I have spent at least a few thousand more than what I am asking for, but anything at this point will help. I'm praying he won't have to go back to the hospital, but with him not eating and drinking, it can lead to a continuation and worsening of his medical conditions. I'm at a loss for what to do at this point.
He is a beautiful Bombay kitty, my little black panther. Salem is a very well-behaved cat who wants nothing but love, snuggles, long naps, and playtime. He loves basking in the sun and watching the birds from the front porch. He is the sweetest boy with an amazing personality and such kind eyes. I hope you can find it in your heart to donate a few dollars to help Salem and me with these large hospital bills. Again, anything will help. Your kindness and support are much appreciated. Thank you.
