Support For Ryan Huff & Family

Donation protected
This fundraiser is in support of Ryan Huff, Matt, Ellie and Josh.

As we all know, Matt and Ellie are the first to step in and help anywhere and everywhere that they can. This situation was completely unexpected and will come with travel expenses to and from the hospital, medical bills and time needed off of work to be there with Ryan. Now their family needs our help so that they can be in full support of Ryan during his recovery process.

From Ellie on Monday 8/7:

Ry had some pain in his right ankle on Monday (7/31), so we were sent to SOS to get it checked out. After doing some scans, they thought he had torn his achilles tendon and had some inflammation. His elbow starting hurting, but nothing like the pain he had in his foot. Within a short period of time, just a few days, his other ankle and his wrist started hurting, and the pain kept on getting worse. We ended up in the ER on Thursday morning, where it continued to get worse, so he was admitted to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.

After a few days, and lots of blood cultures, MRIs, scans, etc. the doctors let us know that he had an infection in his blood stream. His right ankle in particular had an infection in his joints, tendons and bone. We thought antibiotics would help significantly, but he was still in pain and not able to walk at all. His joints sort of seized up, wasn’t able to move his foot up or down… and his left ankle and elbow were increasing in pain. He spiked a fever the night before last, and that’s when I reached out for prayers.

They took him into surgery yesterday morning, and after a few hours, he was out. They let us know that they felt they were able to get into both ankles, clean everything up and flush out as much as possible. They found that he has sepsis arthritis in both ankles, which is sort of baffling to the doctors, because it isn’t common that it would be in one ankle joint and then move to the complete opposite ankle, very rare.

He has splints on both legs, with drains to help get out any addition fluid. He was in a lot of pain last night, but after some additional pain medication, he was able to get a decent amount of rest.

He’s having testing on his heart today, and was hooked up to an EKG throughout the night. The cardiologist will be in today to run addition scans on his heart, just to see where this infection could have come from and that it’s not attacking other parts of his body.

We were lucky to have my sister in law Amy Dorsch, working the last few days on the floor above us, come down and help with everything… including the ride down to surgery… getting Ryan and I as comfortable as possible before and after surgery, setting me up with a shower, tiding up our room, doing our laundry, answering any questions or concerns about what’s going on and what to expect, etc.

I will update everyone later on to day or this evening, but still need your prayers, positive vibes and love. Thank you all for love and support, this has been a terrifying week, and appreciate all the texts, calls, messages, etc. from all of you! Feel free to leave Ry a message on Ellie’s Facebook for him to read. We love you all .
