Update: January 10th, 2026: Ryan has met with his oncology team and he has a grade IV glioma which is an aggressive form of brain cancer. They are still waiting on some more pathology results to characterize the type of glioma further. Surgery to remove the tumor is not an option for him based on its location in the central part of his brain. He will be starting radiation and chemotherapy as soon as they can get his oral chemotherapy pill in the pharmacy and the computer program is ready for the radiation treatment. The hope is for this treatment to stop the tumor from growing.
Ryan went to the ER on Sunday, December 28th, due to experiencing extreme fatigue and tremor-like symptoms that escalated through the week of Christmas. Ryan underwent a battery of tests including an MRI which revealed two brain tumors, gliomas, located in both his temporal lobes. He was admitted to the hospital for further testing and was started on medications to limit any brain swelling and reduce his risk of having a seizure. He had consults with neurosurgery and oncology while he was in the hospital with follow-ups planned after discharge. He had a needle biopsy on December 30th to determine the exact type of brain cancer, and as of this post, are still awaiting results. He is now back in the comfort of his own home as they await results and establish care with a team of providers to help him.
The best way that you can support is to contribute to the GoFundMe and/or in one of the other ways outlined below. Dollars given will help alleviate the stress of medical expenses, allow the family to purchase needed services, and make it possible to create meaningful experiences together during this precious time.
Gift cards are also welcomed. Best place for gifts cards is Walmart, where Ryan and Sonja can order both groceries and household items and have them delivered to their home as often as needed. Gift cards to restaurants located close to their home are also useful. Those can be sent directly through this MealTrain link
