My name is Andrea Hartung and as a lot of you know, my sister Ruth was in a horrible car accident with her son Reiss on Sunday September 26, 2021. Ruth was taken to Lima Memorial Hospital and was taken to the ICU with multiple injuries that include several broken ribs, a shattered pelvis, 2 spinal fractures, internal bleeding, and a collapsed lung. A breathing tube was inserted to help her breathe and a chest tube placed to reinflate her lung. Ruth was then life-flighted to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, OH where they have been trying to save her life. Since being at Grant, new cervical fractures have been found and although she was previously moving her legs and one arm, she is now not able to do so. They are telling us that she is paralyzed from the neck down and will need a trach, feeding tube, etc for the rest of her life and that she will need 24 hour care for the rest of her life. We are all devastated. Ruth has 4 children, ages 21, 17, 14, and 12. Her three youngest children’s father passed away 5 years ago from cancer and Ruth was the only parent they had. Ruth supported her children working for LACP (Lima Allen County Paramedics) and was both father and mother to her children. Ruth’s youngest child, Sylvianne, has a chromosome disorder from birth and is special needs and needs 24 hour care as well. Our whole family is pitching in to help with the kids- especially her oldest son Skyler. So many people have reached out to ask how they can help and first and foremost we ask for your prayers for Ruth and for her children- Ruth is stable for now but she has severe life-threatening injuries. It is going to be a long, tough road for all of them. Other people have asked about food for the kids, monetary donations, etc so we felt that we would start this fundraiser for anyone who felt compelled to donate. ALL FUNDS will go towards caring for the kids and towards Ruth’s medical bills. As we get more up to date information, I will post updates for anyone wanting to follow her story and want to know how to pray specifically. Right now, we desperately need her hemoglobin to come up so she can undergo a much needed operation to stabilize the cervical fractures and get her out of the halo she is in. This will also allow them to do her trach placement so the tube can come out of her throat/mouth. Pray specifically that the swelling on the nerves in her spine go down and that some of her mobility will be returned. We are being told it will not but we believe that God has the ability to alter this for her- please pray for that! Thank you all so much for your prayers and support ♥️
