On November 1, 2025, my husband Russell was rushed to the hospital after experiencing severe nausea and sudden loss of mobility in his left leg. A CT scan revealed a life-threatening tear in his aorta, and he was immediately transferred by ambulance to MUSC in Charleston. There, Russell underwent a 12-hour open-heart surgery to completely rebuild his aorta and replace a valve using cow heart tissue. Just hours after surgery, he was rushed back for another emergency operation due to blood clots forming around his heart. The trauma from these events caused his kidneys to fail, requiring 24-hour dialysis, and he also suffered a stroke that affected the right side of his body.
Russell spent over four months in hospitals and rehabilitation centers, enduring countless setbacks including blood infections, fluid in his lungs, and two bowel blockages that required additional surgeries. Despite all efforts, his kidneys have not recovered, and he remains bed bound at home with severe bed sores. Without Medicare, we are unable to get him the nursing home care he desperately needs. The financial strain has been overwhelming, as we face mounting medical bills, the cost of home health care, medical equipment, prescriptions, and everyday household expenses.
The generosity of our community will help support my two kids and me during this extremely difficult and traumatic time. All prayers are welcome, and we deeply appreciate any donations—including food and cleaning supplies. Your kindness will make a real difference in Russell’s recovery and our family’s ability to get through this challenging chapter.
