Cancer is a MFer, am I right?
Sorry for the brash statement. I tried to think of a more eloquent way to get the point across, but I came up short. I mean, one day you’re just hanging out with your dog, minding your own business, and the next day, cancer comes along and punches you right in the gut. Or in Russ’s case, the liver.
Let me back up a second and let you know what’s going on.
After undergoing hernia surgery in December 2018, Russ’s health started to decline. He was admitted to the hospital in the beginning of the month. He underwent a series of tests, where doctors found ulcers, pulmonary emboli (blood clots in the lungs), and suspicious spots on his liver. After several days in the hospital and a biopsy, liver cancer was confirmed.
The good news is: Russ is moving forward with a positive attitude and fully intends to beat this and move on from it happily and healthily.
The bad news: cancer doesn’t just go after your health, it goes after your wallet too. And your bank account, and your retirement plan, and all the change under your couch cushions.
That’s where you come in.
Russ and Fatima are currently working with doctors to figure out the best treatment plan for him, but the medical bills are already mounting. Seriously, they were bringing bills into Russ’s hospital room in between tests.
And, as I’m sure at least some of you know firsthand, insurance only covers a portion of them.
To add to that, Fatima has taken time off work to be by Russ’s side every step of the way, so she can fully commit to helping him with his health and taking care of their dog, Blair. And she will need to take more time off once a treatment plan is set in place.
If you know Russ and Fatima personally, you know that they would give you the shirts off their backs if you needed them. But before giving it to you, they would tell you to lie down on the massage table so they could give you a full, professional hour-long deep tissue massage first. Russ also selflessly served his country in Vietnam as a door gunner with the Medivac team.
The point is, cancer isn’t an easy battle. Mentally, emotionally, or financially. But I’m hoping that we can all band together here to take away some of the financial stress so Russ and Fatima can focus on the mental and emotional part. As they say, it takes a village.
If you cant donate, that’s okay. Please consider sharing this page or sending prayers, positive vibes, good thoughts, or whatever your preferred method of healing energy is, instead. We’ll take it all.
Thank you. ♥️
