Rosli bin Beedin (age 66) passed away on Christmas Eve following a fall at home. He left behind his wife Che Embun, 6 adult children and 10 grandchildren.
Rosli was a Locally Employed Civilian (LEC) who worked for the RAAF, initially as a Carpenter for Support Unit Butterworth (SUBUT) from 1977-1985. He then transferred to 92WG DET A as a General Hand, supporting Operation Gateway and all variants of the P-3 Orion aircraft, until retiring shortly after the last AP-3C left Butterworth in 2019. Rosli was the longest serving member of 92WG DET A at Butterworth Air Base.
His role may not have carried lofty titles or public acclaim, but Rosli’s work proved to be the backbone of countless operations and rotations of 92WG, 492SQN, 10SQN, 11SQN and 292SQN personnel. For 34 years, he dedicated himself to the tasks that often went unseen but were always essential to the smooth functioning of DET A’s operations.
His work varied, from performing aircraft-related tasks such as the General Hand (GH) Servicing, to meticulously packing aircraft spares. He also took on the additional responsibility of packing the well-known Ipoh Pots and other Malaysian souvenirs, items that required the same careful touch and dedication he brought to all his tasks. Beyond this, Rosli’s days were filled with general cleaning duties, where his diligence turned seemingly mundane jobs into an art form of dependability and pride.
Despite the physical nature of his work, Rosli’s infectious smile never wavered. His colleagues often commented that he had the remarkable ability to brighten the dullest of days. His smile was more than a gesture; it was a reflection of his genuine happiness and humble nature. Even with limited proficiency in the English language, Rosli connected with everyone around him. His laughter, kind gestures, and positive attitude built bridges of camaraderie and friendship that transcended words.
RIP Rosli
All money raised will be converted to Ringgit and presented to Rosli's wife by Charlie Morgan during her Penang visit mid Feb 2025.
