Support for Roscoe’s Medical Journey
Donation protected
Hey Guys! Wanted to share a story about our friend and fellow dad, Aaron Bentley, and his son, Roscoe. During the 2023 Dad Tired retreat, my friend Micah Carter and I were randomly bunked up with Aaron. We have stayed connected, and during this year's retreat, Aaron bunked with our group from Florida. Roscoe, 2, is Aaron and his wife Mackenzie’s only son. We knew some details of Roscoe’s birth and some operations he has had previously, leaving Aaron’s family with about $10,000 in medical debt. There are more details below, but the short of it is, Roscoe is now having to have open-heart surgery on October 17.
While we would like to ask for prayers for Roscoe on behalf of Aaron’s family, our group also felt convicted to help in a practical way and started a GoFundMe for Roscoe. (A humble guy, Aaron originally denied the request for this but has relented and given his blessing ) This surgery would normally be over $100k, but thankfully through insurance, it will be $2,500. But it would be great if they didn’t have to worry about any of this cost.
Would invite you to read below from Aaron, pray for him, his family, and Roscoe’s surgery, and prayerfully consider supporting if you are able.
**From Aaron**
In June of this year, Roscoe had a check-up appointment with his pediatrician, and they heard a heart murmur and wanted him to be seen by a cardiologist.
On August 7th, we had that appointment with a cardiologist, and it was found that Roscoe has an atrial septal defect and moderately low regurgitation at the mitral valve that would require open-heart surgery. Initially, we were told that this would need to take place between ages 3 and 5 by the first cardiologist.
We then sought a second opinion, specifically to see what timeline Duke would give because they are the ones performing the surgery. One week later, we had an appointment with Duke, and they changed the timeline for surgery to 2-6 months from that date. So, Roscoe’s surgery is scheduled for October 17th, 2024.
Roscoe is a fighter who was resuscitated at birth due to a placental abruption and born at 4 lbs 9 oz in 2022. Last year, he was hospitalized for 4 days with RSV, pneumonia, and rhinovirus. We know that this is just another battle for our warrior. With God’s strength in our family, we will overcome this.
