Hi my name is Jimmy Nguyen. It is with overwhelming grief, sadness, and loss that I am sharing the passing of my brother, Robert Hao Nguyen.
I am fundraising for his wife (Trang), son (Trevor), and his unborn daughter (Roxanne) to provide them with the means to endure the financial hardships as a result of his passing.
Robert suffered cardiac arrest while at home on May 18, 2024 at around 4:00 PM. Robert collapsed unexpectedly in the bathroom and Trang heard the fall and immediately rushed to his side. She dialed 911 and she began compressions while the paramedics arrived. Upon arrival, the paramedics resuscitated him after the third attempt before arriving to the ER.
Robert was in critical condition in the ER and was transferred to the ICU that same day. He was placed on a hypothermic protocol to preserve the brain/neurons and to prevent inflammation. He was also sedated to decrease brain activity from the anoxic event secondary to the cardiac arrest.
As of 5/22, Robert has been on life support for the past 4 days and doctors have conducted brainstem testing and apnea testing to with a declaration of brain death. The doctors have exhausted all life-saving measures and tests that would give even a droplet of hope.
Our family and friends were very hopeful that Robert would be able to recuperate and make some kind of recovery that would allow him to stay with us. Unfortunately, he was unable to wake or pass any tests that doctors put him through.
---- A glimpse of Robert through his little brother's eyes ----
Robert--how do I even begin...you are and always will be my big brother and someone I look up to. You cared so much about our family and loved your siblings so much through the things you did. You ensured that our family would get together for birthdays and holidays so we could share those moments together. That's all you wanted.
On family trips, you were always the one driving. You took the initiative to drive so everyone else could relax even if you had to drive late into the night. You were selfless.
Whenever someone needed a dollar, you gave them ten dollars. Whenever mom or dad needed to drive to Los Angeles or just to the local fairgrounds for an expo, you made it a point to clear your schedule to make sure they got there safely. When someone needed an ear, you gave them both.
You love exotic cars and know every engine sound. It was insanity, but that was you. You constantly sought knowledge. You exceled when you pursued.
You allowed others to live before you even got to. You hardly looked after yourself and made sure others were taken care of before you, despite the many reminders, you just couldn't let yourself come first.
You became a father two years ago with Trevor and you probably never thought in your wildest dreams that you would marry and be a father. Your son asks where his "daddy" is. How do I explain this to him? How does Trang or anyone explain this? What about Roxanne?
I've never seen you so happy as much as you were when you were with Trang, Trevor, and little Roxanne in her belly--your family. I've never seen you as happy as you were when we took family trips. It was you guys, mom and dad, our sister, me, and your little nieces and nephew. The pieces that you've left behind for all of us to pick up is a challenging task. Our hearts are completely shattered. How do we say goodbye to Robert Hao Nguyen?
You are a great friend to many, but where you shined was being a family man. An irreplaceable and wonderful brother, uncle, son, husband, and daddy.
We love you so much. We miss you.
