Hi all,
Rita Reedy suffered a stroke back in Oct of 2025. It was not something anyone expected, it came out of nowhere, but it also had a good prognosis. With quick reaction and EMTs we were able to get her to the hospital quickly enough that recovery and rehab were a great possibility. She left the Hospital and transfered to a Rehab facility in November of 2025. The recovery and rehab had a lot of ups and downs. We talked to the Facility to make sure her Care was the upmost priority and so they knew that we were close and able to assist the facility if needed.

We have been reassured regularly that things were going well, she was doing well, not as active as hoped, but healthy. Tuesday, Tess recieved a call that she was showing signs of fatigue and aspiration and would we like to "just make her comfortable". Tess of course snapped at them that "no, I want her to go to the hospital". They told her, "oh, I guess we will tell the doctor that is your choice" and about 45 minutes later we got the call she was in an ambulance on her way. While on the way to the ER Tess got another call from the nurse on staff telling her that he had given her pain meds earlier as she was "calling out" and he had believed she was just in pain.

When arriving at the hospital the ER staff informed us that they believed that she was brain dead and to call family who would want to come say goodbye. While that was all handled, the doctor ran blood work and talked to the EMTs who brought her in. The results left all of us speechless. She was seriously dehydrated, malnourished, and had been overdosed on Oxycodone. The EMTs informed the ER docs that the staff at the Rehab facility could not even tell the EMTs how much they had given her, they were not given an MAR, and even later upon a call from the docs, the staff still do not know how much they gave her.

The ER docs gave her multiple doses of Narcan and began fluid to try to balance things out. From all of the aspirating during this ordeal, she developed Pnemonia.
She has been in the ICU since Tuesday night fighting to recover from all of the damage they had done to her, as well as the Pnemonia. From all the antiobotics she later developed C-Diff.

After a long and hard battle, life support was discontinued this afternoon. Her family are by her side showering her with love.

If there is anything you can do to assist, she does not have life insurance or savings to aid in her cremation, final bills, etc. This is a hard time on Tess and the kids and I would like to try to remove at least some of the stress as they grieve.
