No one can prepare you for receiving a diagnosis of cancer.
Richard Armitage is super positive and has an amazing zest for life. He was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Cancer in November 2019. Richard is a certified Safety Consultant and has always taken into consideration the safety and well-being of all workers.
When Richard was given the devastating news in November of 2019, he was shocked and frightened for the outcome. Despite this, Richard was brave and went ahead with radical treatments to get rid of the cancer. The treatments consisted of radiation and intense chemotherapy. After a series of intensive chemo treatments, he underwent major surgery where he had to endure an ostomy bag for months. While taking these intensive chemo treatments, he did not miss a beat, still looking after all of his responsibilities as a Safety Consultant and kept working throughout the entire process of his radiation and chemo treatments.
In October 2020, Richard received positive news that he could have the reversal
surgery on his ostomy. In doing so, the oncology team also determined that the cancer had in fact spread quickly to his lungs and liver. In December, depleting his savings, Richard went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota to get a second opinion where he was told that the diagnosis had not changed and that the cancer will need intense treatments. The oncology team has determined that conventional treatment is not the best option. It is also determined that the lung cancer has progressed into Stage 4.
But there’s hope.
Richard’s oncologists are optimistic about the treatments that are offered internationally which show promising success for this type of cancer. Clinical trials indicate that it is safe, however expensive, as it is not covered by Manitoba Health.
This is where we come in, the cost of the treatment is $75,000 CAD. He needs our help. With Stage 4 cancer, we must pull together and help him get treated.
We understand that you may not be able to contribute financially, but I hope you will consider sharing this page on your social media.
Thank you for your support and caring during this difficult time.
