Reaching out for support right now, those of you who know me know that I pride myself in caring and providing for myself. I am the Son of immigrants who have instilled in me a hard work ethic and great pride in doing it all. I have never asked for help like this in my life. ICE is taking people in Minneapolis documented and undocumented, they are targeting all minority groups, they are mostly targeting Latin communities. I have already faced too many close encounters with ICE and I am grateful for the businesses that are doing the work to keep us safe. But some business such as my previous employer were not, and the working conditions became unsafe. I had no choice but to quit my job. This sudden change has left me without income and I am now facing the challenge of covering rent and other basic living expenses.
Additionally I live less than 5min walk from where the tragedy of Alex Pretti occurred. Now more than ever I am afraid to leave my house. The bus stop I used to take to go to work is directly in front of the memorial. I am now reminded daily just how close danger feels. I witnessed first hand people getting detained outside my window. They tear gassed the entire block to a point where the tear gas came into my apartment. I had no choice but to flee my apartment and be temporarily housed by a friend for the night. I was only able to come home after the National Guard had left the perimeter of my home. I am grateful for the businesses, neighbors, and organizers in Minneapolis and in the Whittier community who have shown up with vigils, support, and solidarity.
The funds raised will go directly for 3 months of rent. Your support is greatly appreciated whether that is a small donation or simply sharing my story. Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated during these hard times.
