Hi everyone, this GoFundMe was established for the family of my friend and fellow nurse—and at times, my partner in crime when we worked together—Rebekah, who recently passed.
Rebekah was deeply important to so many people. She devoted her life to caring for others and gave generously without ever expecting recognition. Over the past few years, Rebekah faced ongoing health challenges that eventually made it impossible for her to continue working at the level her profession required. Stepping away from her nursing career was incredibly difficult for her, as nursing was not just her job—it was her true calling, her passion, and a core part of who she was.
Rebekah and I worked together as home health nurses, often caring for the same patients. Many times, we entered the homes of individuals in their 70s, 80s, and 90s who had little to no food, or food that was not healthy or adequate. Without hesitation, Rebekah would go to the grocery store and purchase essentials—milk, bread, butter, soup, frozen vegetables, fruit, and other nourishing items. Occasionally, she would include a few treats for patients who needed a bit of extra joy.
She never wanted credit for these acts of kindness. She would leave groceries on a porch, knock, and walk away, or call and say she had noticed grocery bags outside and wanted to be sure they were brought in. If a patient was unable to retrieve them, she would quietly contact a family member or caregiver.
Although this was not something we were technically permitted to do as nurses, Rebekah believed deeply in doing what was right. Her generosity—and her determination—left a lasting impact on everyone around her. She was strong-willed, compassionate, and unwavering in her care for others.
This fundraiser will go directly to Jamie, Rebekah’s husband and co-organizer of the GoFundMe. The funds will help cover funeral expenses, medical bills, and day-to-day household needs, and will support the family during a time that is not only emotionally devastating but has also been financially challenging. Jamie has worked tirelessly to provide for Rebekah and their beautiful daughters, while also caring for Rebekah and supporting her through her illnesses for as long as possible. Rebekah, in turn, fought with everything she had to stay here for her family, until her body simply could not fight any longer.
Rebekah gave so much of herself through her career and her life in the Cheyenne community—where she graduated high school, fell in love with her soulmate, and raised her children. I hope this community can now come together to give back, even in a small way, to the family she loved so deeply.
As we celebrate Rebekah’s life, we can take comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain. I don’t just believe she is in a better place—I know she is. She earned her place on heaven’s shores, and she more than earned her angel wings. May we honor her by carrying forward the compassion, generosity, and love she shared so freely.
