Support for R.D.’s Legal and Medical Needs

Dear Friends, Family, and Community,

I am reaching out today to ask for your support during an incredibly difficult time for my family, as my brother faces serious legal charges. On top of this, he is currently suffering from a fractured spine. He has always been a good, kind boy with a gentle heart, but has been struggling ever since our mom died.

My brother suffers from severe health issues like sickle cell and a neurological disorder called Chiari malformation. He also has several extreme and anaphylactic food allergies, and unfortunately the detention center where he is being held is not equipped to provide allergen-free food without additional costs. This means he is at constant risk of exposure to life-threatening allergens. These issues are adding an unbearable layer of stress to an already difficult situation.

Beyond his health concerns, it is also crucial that he receives strong legal representation to ensure he has a fair trial. Without a private attorney, his chances for a fair hearing are not the same. The legal fees are significant, and we want to make sure he is not at a disadvantage (outside of being a young Black man) simply because of financial limitations.
