January 9th, 2024, God called home an amazing soul, Raymie Sanchez after fighting cancer for over 4 years. Raymie and I first met in middle school playing on the Pico Rivera Lions basketball team. From there we went to St. Paul High School where he was a grade in-between me and my sister. But it was Raymie and my sister who connected after high school and famously eloped in Las Vegas. Serving in the Air Force, Raymie and my sister Candice started their life together across the nation, living in New Jersey, New York, then Buffalo, and had their first child Raymie Jr. on the East Coast. They returned to California and Raymie and Candice had their second son Dominic during which time he was diagnosed with throat cancer.
For Raymie and Candice’s family on the West Coast, their coming home was a blessing for all of us. Raymie deeply loved his people and deeply loved his sons, and his wife which he called his "squad". I admired Raymie as a father and how he showed love, care, strength, and toughness to his sons. His greatness as a father shows in how amazing his sons are. Raymie also had this ability to connect with people, anyone anywhere. He had this presence about him that pulled people in and it was hard not to love Raymie. His love of life was contagious and his humor and playfulness just made you want to be around him. His loyalty and generosity to the people he loved were undeniable, and there was no one better to have in your corner than Raymie.
Throughout his time with cancer, he continued to live life to the fullest and uplifted everyone around him even in his illness. This world has lost the most unique soul, and our hearts are heavy with his untimely passing. All those who knew and loved him, now know the pain in our hearts of the reality that he is no longer with us.
For everyone who knew him, knows the pain of losing his presence and how irreplaceable he is. Raymie was just an all-around amazing person who loved life. We ask that we keep his dedicated and loving wife Candice, and his two sons in our prayers. Please show your support for his wife Candice, and his two sons Raymie and Dominic by donating to Raymie’s Burial fund. There is no justice in how we can honor Raymie because he deserves more than what his world can offer. The only justice in this world is knowing that Raymie no longer suffers and he is with our Lord in eternal peace and happiness. For all those who are in heaven with him, can celebrate his return home even as we mourn here on earth. And we know that he is chilling with his dog Elvis and shooting hoops with Kobe, and probably making some trouble in heaven.
