Hi, my name is Nichelle and I'm raising funds for Ralph Ibanez, who will be competing at the World Veterans Judo Championships in Las Vegas (November 4-7, 2024).
If you know Ralph, you know of his passion for and dedication to judo. He has been doing judo for close to 60 years and many of those years he spent as a coach. As a head sensei, he has committed countless hours to the growth of the Saskatoon YMCA Judo Club and to the development of his athletes. Recently, he was named coach of the year with Judo Sask - though his influence has stretched across Judo Canada. Ralph is an inspiration to many as he defies age and continues to compete at the veteran level internationally.
Due to financial constraints, Ralph's current flight has him arriving in Vegas on the day of his weigh-ins (November 3rd) and then leaving immediately the day after he competes. (He competes on the 4th.)
I'm sure most of you have experienced a delayed or cancelled flight, especially these days, so I'm justly worried Ralph will miss his weigh-ins and not be able to compete (the tournament entry fee and hotel stay are non-refundable as well).
I'm asking for your financial support so we can change his flights and get Ralph to Vegas at least a day earlier. He will also need accommodations and food for the extra time spent there.
As well, the athletes must stay at the costlier tournament hotel for a mandated two nights ($230 US/night). This has greatly added to the financial crunch Ralph is already feeling.
If you're here and reading this, Ralph has probably played some role in your life, whether in judo or personally. Let's show our support to Ralph so that money is the least of his worries on his journey to the world's podium.
Below is a video CBC news had done of Ralph last year in preparation for World's 2023. Check it out and hear his story.
Thank you so much for your support!
