One of our retired Priests is going through a very difficult time with his health and finances. Due to his deteriorating health, he is unable to work to support himself and is now living in a senior's lodge. He has used up all of his savings and RRSP's in order to pay the monthly rent and other necessities. He has applied for AISH (provincial assistance program for the disabled) to get some financial and medical assistance, but even with his Social Worker's and Medical Doctor's help, his application has been rejected. His full Government Pension will not be available to him until next year. Our Archdiocesan Council (with the Archbishop) will be meeting at the end of April for our Spring meeting, and we will be discussing how we can provide him with some ongoing support.
He requires about $2000 per month. I have therefore set up this fundraiser to help support him until those funds from the Archdiocese can be provided to him. I am also in the process of helping him re-apply for Government assistance through the AISH program.
As you know, the Church reminds us that the ascetical disciplines of Fasting and Almsgiving go together. During these remaining two weeks of Great Lent, if you are able to give some alms to help one of our own, it would be greatly appreciated. Any amount will be helpful.
May God continue to provide spiritual and emotional strength to our Priest and brother in Christ.
*Please note that donations given in this fundraiser are not tax-deductible.
