Support for Pickens Family in Their Time of Need

Donation protected
Today we remember Specialist Nathan Pickens who passed on May 22, 2024. In August of 1991, at the age of 17, Nathan enlisted in the United States Army. He faithfully served in single-channel radio operation and power generation. He served alongside his father, James Pickens, in Company B, 134th Forward Support Battalion (Red Bulls). His father also served in the US Marine Corps completing 2 tours in Vietnam. Nathan’s grandfather, Kenneth Craven, also served in the United States Army in the 134th in World War II. His other grandfather, Robert Pickens, served in the US Army during World War II in Company B, 8th Battalion. Nathan’s family and extended family has a long, proud tradition of service in the US armed forces. His brother Trent (Air Force), cousin John (Marine), uncle Craig (Army), uncle Bob (Navy), uncle Harry (Army), and uncle Jeff (Army) all served. Nathan also had a 4x great uncle, Andrew A J Pickens, who served in the Ohio Infantry, Company B in the Civil War. In addition to this, his wife Jennifer’s great grandfather served in World War I where he lost his legs from frostbite after being transported by train boxcar. Her grandfather George served in World War II, and 2 of her uncles also served. Her great-uncle Brian was shot down and held prisoner. We want to thank and honor all service men and women who have stepped forward and answered our Nation’s call and especially those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Nathan joined his sweet Brooklyn this morning surrounded by his family.

We are raising money for the Pickens Family as they have experienced a tremendous amount of loss in their family. In December of 2023 they lost their beloved daughter/sister, Brooklyn at the age of 18. Brooklyn was a brave young lady as she battled many medical issues starting at a young age. Jennifer (mom) dedicated her life to caring for Brooklyn and their other children, and Nathan (dad) worked as a teacher at Dunwoody College. About a year ago, the Picken’s family received the devastating news that Nathan had cancer. Nathan fought hard and did his best live a normal life during this time. Unfortunately, the cancer has spread throughout his body. In the recent days, Nathan was hospitalized and has now been moved to hospice. In addition to this family experiencing immense heartache, they have and will endure an incredible financial loss. To relieve some of the financial burden, we are hoping to raise money for this family as they grieve together and navigate what’s to come. We are deeply appreciative for any and all donations; thank you.
