Hi, my name is Brenda Swanston, niece of Philip and Helen Doerksen. I am raising money to help cover the cost of Philip's Cancer Journey.
Philip was diagnosed with cancer in September of 2022. On November 4, 2022, he underwent a major surgery to remove his left kidney, the lower portion of his left lung, his adrenal gland, and all lymph nodes on the left side. The doctors initially assured him they had removed all the cancer. However, a few months later, a CT scan revealed that the cancer had spread to both lungs and the lymph nodes between them, prompting the start of treatment. After his third treatment, Philip had a severe reaction and was placed on a high dose of steroids to flush it from his system, which led to the development of diabetes. On October 31, 2024, Philip had another surgery in Edmonton to expand the left lung for better oxygen capacity and to remove tumors and nodules. Since then, he has been in excruciating pain and his condition has worsened significantly. On November 31, 2024, he was rushed to Fort Vermillion Hospital by ambulance due to extreme shortness of breath, with doctors initially feared he might not survive. An X-ray revealed a dangerous infection in both lungs and was medevac'd to Edmonton Royal Alexandra Hospital ICU. We are asking for prayers and donations to help the family cover the cost of fuel, food, accommodations, and any other expenses this journey may incur.
