Support for Phil Munoz

As many of you know, our brother, Phil Munoz, suffered a tragic work accident in Montana on July 28 when a huge panel from a bison fence landed on him. He has multiple lumbar vertebral fractures, pelvic fractures, and a devastating spinal cord injury. He is paralyzed from the level of the waist down. He has had surgery on the spine and the pelvis and is presently in the Intensive Care Unit in Billings Clinic, Montana. We mourn this tragic loss of motor function and sensation with Phil, yet celebrate that his life was mercifully spared. Next steps involve grief processing, control of his significant pain and nausea, and working toward his new future. Phil will be transferred to Craig Hospital in Colorado within a couple of weeks for intensive spinal rehabilitation where he will re-learn all life skills necessary to live life without the function of his legs. He is expected to have an approximately 2-month inpatient stay.

Thank you for considering a contribution. All funds will go directly to Phil. While he has medical insurance, there will be likely significant bills related to medical assist devices, his eventual wheelchair, modifying a car so that he can drive with hand controls with time, etc. Furthermore, we look forward to the day that we will have the privilege of setting up a wheelchair-accessible living quarter for him with ramps, an accessible shower, a custom mattress to prevent bedsores, facilitating a service dog if he'd like, and so on.

Thank you from the whole family during this time of grief. Phil is blessed with an amazing network of friends through his many years on the farms, and we are grateful to his best friend, Brenda, for her unwavering support of Phil. His farm family at Heyday Farm in Washington made the beautiful flower tribute for Phil that you see in the pictures below. We are grateful for your thoughts, prayers, and support.

Love, Phil's family......
