Recently, my mother passed away, without any arrangements or insurance. Living with my mother was my younger brother, a mentally disabled adult who has never lived alone. After her passing, I was tasked with sole responsibility of the situation, including funeral/cremation arrangements and moving my brother from a bad situation in another state to NC.
We are still trying to find a long-term solution to his living situation, but I am currently still financing putting him somewhere to stay until we can find an opening at residential housing for disabled adults, which has been delayed due to his benefits being frozen until things can be transferred to either him or I, since all of his benefits were being sent to and handled by our mother. I have taken the vast majority of the financial burden of this situation, which comes less than eight months after my partner was laid off, with a major car repair expense and a cancer diagnosis for our dear cat occurring in between. With all of these major, unexpected expenses in a period of time where our household has less income coming in, I've all but completely drained all of my savings, while taking out a credit card to make a payment to the funeral home, and have taken out another credit card.
While it is extremely difficult and humbling to ask for help, it's due to these reasons I ask for assistance, to help ensure that I am able to continue to take care of my brother during this transitional period, ensure I am also able to continue to contribute rent, utilities, and other necessities to the household for myself, my partner, and two other roommates, and possibly help recoup some of the costs I have paid out of pocket over the past eight months.
I really appreciate any help given. Thank you.
