Support for Paula's Father's Final Journey
Donation protected
Hi my name is Adam and I'm doing this fundraiser to help my wife Paula and her family during this difficult time. Paula actually wrote the narrative below, struggling but hopeful. She was going to post it this morning and then we got the call her father passed away in the early hours of the morning. I would like to ask for your help so we can provide her father a proper burial/ceremony, continue legal battles and hopefully go to the Philippines to see him one last time. Thank you so much
Paula's original write up:
Hello everyone, my name is Paula Jahangosha (you may know me as Paula Cruz, Pauweeh or your fur baby’s auntie) and I’m helping raise funds for my father, Efren Cruz’ medical care & legal expenses.
On December 14, 2023, my father was crossing the street back home in the Philippines when he was hit by a small company truck. He was rushed to the hospital where he was treated for brain injuries (like Traumatic Subarachnoid Hemorrhage among others & weirdly no broken bones!!!) and was confined for almost a month. The person/company that’s responsible then maliciously made my father sign an “Affidavit of Desistance” which basically says he cannot sue them and they are relieved of any responsibilities with no family members present, he was still on medication and the promise that he can go home after signing it.
From that point on, the physical and financial responsibility of caring for him landed on the shoulders of his family members. As much as I want to express my own unhappiness about our American medical and justice system… the simple concept of being responsible after you hit someone, having medical insurance, and “easy access to healthcare” doesn’t really exist back home. Maybe for some… but not for this particular situation and majority of the country’s citizens who are living in poverty. Imagine someone being in that frail state, being transferred from one cab to another trying to find a hospital that can take him. It’s one of the most awful pictures in my head that I can’t erase. If this would have happened on US soil, the story would be very different. He’s never been the same since… he could not even sit, verbalize, eat, there’s really nothing that he can “do”.
Unfortunately, things are not looking so great in both medical and legal aspects. My father is currently at home and our goal is make sure he is nourished (via NGT tube), comfortable and well cared for.
If you’re reading this and you’re my client or maybe someone who I need to charge for something, you know how terrible I am in billing and asking for money in general. So after much time and consideration, my husband and I have decided to start this fundraising campaign to help pay for his prescribed medicines and food, doctor visits, 24/7 caregiver and legal fees (we are suing the person/company). We have been helping fund this for the last 6 months – depleting our dog care business funds and now imploring for help from our family and friends … because no one does anything in this world alone! Having a support system like the one we have is rare and we are so grateful to be able to ask for help when we need it knowing we are supported by all of you. We thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts for your financial help and most importantly, your prayers.
