I am Paula McGirr and I am writing on behalf of myself and my beloved husband Colin Tobias who is only 64 years old. As most of you will know, Colin has been critically ill for the past month, after facing non-stop medical challenges for the past 1 1/2 years, including a serious car accident from which he sustained multiple traumatic injuries, followed by cancer, which he successfully beat, and most recently major spinal surgery. Following his surgery Colin acquired a number of life threatening infections, the treatment of which is no longer working. Colin is now experiencing major organ failure, has been in an induced coma in critical care intensive care for 3 weeks and has been on total life support for all body functions. He is not going to survive and likely has only a few more days to live. Our family is shattered. Colin and I have spent our entire careers as lawyer helping marginalized people of modest means and now we need help. As Colin has scarcely been able to work for the past 1.5 years, I have been shouldering the entire financial burden of our lives and our financial situation has been severely depleted as a result of these catastrophies. Colin and I have faced a number of significant medical expenses not covered by OHIP and now I am going to be facing a number of other significant expenses including funeral and burial expenses for Colin. I am writing to ask if you are able to contribute anything financially to assist me and Colin in meeting these expenses. Any amount at all would be generous and most gratefully appreciated. There will be absolutely no judgment of any kind from me if you are unable to contribute nor is there any expectation that you will contribute - I am well aware of how much Colin is loved and have been humbled by all the emotional support we have both received but now I must request any possible financial support you are able to spare.
