Rhiannon McKinney is my coworker and a devoted mother to her 19-year-old son, Patrick Hurlburt. Patrick was in Florida, preparing to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to pursue his dream of becoming a pilot and building planes. He is incredibly smart—graduating with a 4.3 GPA—sweet, hilarious, and always able to make people laugh, even on the toughest days. He loves collecting coins, playing video games, and listening to music in his car.

Tragically, Patrick was shot during a home invasion just as he was about to start this exciting new chapter. The attack has left him with life-altering injuries, and his future is now uncertain. Rhiannon is devastated, facing the possibility that Patrick may lose his feet and arm, and she is doing everything she can to be by his side. She is currently far from her young daughter, Shannon, and has had to take time off work to support Patrick through this unimaginable ordeal.
