About Oyèmi

Many of you know Oyèmi as a vital force in Berlin’s alternative scene. Whether behind the lens as a photographer, on stage as a musician, or through her tireless work as a co-founder of Decolonoize Berlin – Oyèmi pours her heart into the visibility and empowerment of marginalized voices.

What happened

Following a severe herniated disc, Oyèmi had to undergo urgent surgery. Unfortunately, complications occurred: nerve damage was sustained during the procedure. The consequences are life-altering – currently, Oyèmi is unable to walk properly and faces a grueling, months-long road to recovery. An extended stay at a rehabilitation center is imminent.

Why we need your help

As a freelancer, this setback hits Oyèmi twice as hard. While she is fighting physically to get back on her feet, the financial pressure is mounting daily.

Although she has applied for basic social security (Grundsicherung), it falls far short of covering the reality of her costs. The specific needs arising from her physical impairment, combined with the fixed costs of maintaining her professional existence, are not fully covered by the system.

Your donations will go towards:

Medical Costs: Co-payments for hospital stays, medication, crutches, a necessary orthosis, and medical transport.

Securing her Livelihood: Covering ongoing business expenses (insurance, etc.) to ensure she doesn’t have to give up her self-employed career.

Cost of Living & Loss of Income: Compensating for the total loss of commissions and gigs during the months of rehabilitation.

The Goal: Back to Art and Community

We want Oyèmi to be able to focus entirely on her recovery without the fear of losing everything by the time her rehab ends. Our goal is to provide her with the financial stability she needs to heal and soon return to our community as a photographer and musician.

Über Oyèmi

Viele von euch kennen Oyèmi als feste Größe in der alternativen Berliner Szene. Ob hinter der Kamera als Fotografin, auf der Bühne als Musikerin oder durch ihr unermüdliches Engagement als Mitgründerin von Decolonoize Berlin – Oyèmi steckt ihr Herzblut in die Sichtbarkeit und Stärkung marginalisierter Stimmen.

Was passiert ist

Nach einem schweren Bandscheibenvorfall musste Oyèmi sich einer dringenden Operation unterziehen. Doch leider kam es zu Komplikationen: Während des Eingriffs wurden Nerven geschädigt. Die Folge ist gravierend – Oyèmi kann aktuell nicht richtig laufen und blickt auf einen monatelangen, beschwerlichen Weg der Rehabilitation. Ein längerer Reha-Aufenthalt steht unmittelbar bevor.

Warum wir eure Hilfe brauchen

Als Selbstständige trifft Oyèmi dieser Schicksalsschlag doppelt hart. Während sie physisch darum kämpft, wieder auf die Beine zu kommen, wächst der finanzielle Druck täglich.

Obwohl sie bereits Grundsicherung beantragt hat, deckt diese bei weitem nicht die Realität ihrer Kosten ab. Die speziellen Bedürfnisse, die durch ihre körperliche Beeinträchtigung entstehen, und die Fixkosten ihrer beruflichen Existenz werden vom System nicht aufgefangen.

Die Spenden werden verwendet für:

Medizinische Kosten: Zuzahlungen zum Krankenhausaufenthalt, Medikamente, Krücken, eine notwendige Orthese und Krankentransporte.

Existenzsicherung: Deckung der laufenden Betriebskosten (Versicherungen, Miete des Arbeitsraums etc.), damit sie ihre Selbstständigkeit nicht aufgeben muss.

Lebensunterhalt & Ausfallhonorare: Kompensation der komplett weggefallenen Aufträge und Gagen während der nächsten Monate.

Das Ziel: Zurück zur Kunst und zur Community

Oyèmi soll sich voll und ganz auf ihre Genesung konzentrieren können, ohne Angst haben zu müssen, nach der Reha vor dem Nichts zu stehen. Unser Ziel ist es, ihr die Sicherheit zu geben, die sie braucht, um wieder gesund zu werden und bald wieder als Fotografin und Musikerin Teil unserer Szene zu sein.

Jeder Beitrag – egal wie klein – hilft Oyèmi, diesen Weg zurück ins Leben und in ihren Beruf zu finden.
