Sending out a prayer and donation request...
I uploaded this picture because it was the last time I remember being truly happy. It was also the last time I went on a vacation, three years ago.
In 2024, I lost the majority of my income due to AI and budget cuts in the copywriting world, and I only made my bills about 50% of the year. Prior to that, I endured six layoffs from full-time jobs, along with several contracts ending. Numerous periods of unemployment since 2012, along with surgeries and medical expenses, have resulted in overwhelming debt for me.
I've applied for upwards of 300 jobs this year, but have been unable to secure income. Additionally, I've been unable to work for extended periods due to surgery recovery. I recently moved back in with my parents, because I'm unable to survive health-wise or financially on my own at this time.
Last fall, I was diagnosed with my 10th Melanoma Cancer. I've been under the knife battling this deadly skin cancer for the last 30 years. I’ve undergone over a dozen surgeries, 50+ biopsies, lymph node removal, radiation, been on crutches, and lost the feeling in multiple limbs.
Over the last nine months, I've undergone four surgeries, one of which required plastic surgery to remove cancer on my face (25+ stitches). Just 24 hours prior to the procedure, my insurance refused to pay a dime (after they had pre-approved the surgery a month in advance). That surgery cost me $1.5K out of pocket.
Just shortly after recovering from that surgery, I was diagnosed with an 11th instance of skin cancer, and I recently underwent yet another surgery.
This month, I underwent major oral surgery. While not cancer related, it was medically necessary for me to have a tooth extracted, an implant placed, and a bone graft procedure using cadaver bone. Just one week later, I woke up bleeding profusely with a blood clot, and I was rushed back in for a second emergency surgery. Due to the extent of this procedure, I'm unable to eat on the right side of my mouth for six months, and complete healing can take up to one year.
While my dental insurance covered $3K towards the surgery, I was still responsible for $5K out of pocket (not including over $500 worth of consultation fees).
I was originally diagnosed with Melanoma Cancer at the young age of 19, and it's been a challenging journey ever since. I have full body cancer scans every 3-4 months, including scans of my eyes and mouth. I've now had upwards of 20 surgeries, which is a lot for someone just in their 40's.
While I've wanted to give up many times, my faith is what's kept me going. I continue to pray for peace and financial freedom. I don't know how I'm going to pay off my debt, or when I'll be back on my feet again, but I'm hopeful that better days are ahead.
Please know that any donation, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers during this challenging time.
Please be advised that some of the post-surgery images below are graphic, and may be difficult to view.
