Support for our sister, Sherri

On Feb 11th, 2023, our world was shattered. Four weeks prior to this date Sherri Vardy-Falzone was experiencing severe headaches that would not go away. She woke up with them and went to sleep with them. They started causing her to wake in the night with vomiting. Pain management included Tylenol, Advil, massages, and even chiropractor and physio visits. On Feb 10th, Sherri took herself to the emergency room to be examined. They did a CT scan and discovered a mass on her brain. She was immediately admitted, and an MRI was done to get a better picture of what the doctor’s discovered.

The results of the MRI showed a large mass on the frontal lobe of her brain. The size of her tumor is very large not only in diameter but also in depth. Emergency surgery was performed on Feb 12th to relieve the pressure on her brain. After an intensive 3 hours of waiting the surgeons came to tell us that they were diagnosing Sherri with Glioblastoma Multiforme IV, also known as GBM. GBM is the most lethal type of brain tumor there is. With its aggressive nature and fast-growing capabilities, the life expectancy is less than a year.

Sherri just celebrated her 45th birthday in December 2022, surrounded by family and friends. She is a single mother of two boys, Andrew is 18 and Anthony is 15. Andrew is currently in HVAC school and completing his apprenticeship to be certified this spring. Anthony is a proud member of the Shelburne Wolves hockey team and enjoys spending his evenings and weekends playing in front of Sherri and the family. Both of her children are heartbroken with the diagnosis, as Sherri’s late father and brother had the same Glioblastoma diagnosis and have since passed away. Brain cancer has gravely impacted the Vardy-Falzone family, and with an army behind her, Sherri and her boys need our support now more then ever.

Sherri is a valued member of the OPS. She is employed at the Vanier Centre for Women as a Program Admin Support Clerk and brings light and laughter wherever she is working. Everyone who knows Sherri is missing her presence at work, as she is always eager to learn new tasks and help her colleagues. VCFW is hosting an in-person fundraiser on March 2 & 3, 2023 to support Sherri and her two boys. This fundraiser is to further support Sherri and her children as they prepare themselves for treatment options and receiving the pathology and prognosis results on the aggressive Glioblastoma diagnosis. Please help us support Sherri by donating to this great cause and supporting her family during this difficult time.
