Hi everyone,
The Normal Heights Children's Center has been part of the Normal Heights community for more than 50 years.
Parents learned on Monday, May 1, that the school is expected to shut down at the end of June this year. The reasoning for this is said to be because of costs associated with maintaining the entire property, which includes the Normal Heights United Methodist Church building, as well as a charter school.
Teachers are expected to receive some severance, but their years of service to this community call for much more than is expected to be paid out. I am putting out the call to anyone who can contribute to help give our beloved, dedicated teachers a better send-off than they are currently slated to receive.
The goal amount is some rough math based on average preschool teacher salary in San Diego. This would likely cover at least four additional weeks of severance for all the teachers (three FT and one PT). All money raised will go solely to the teachers.
Share this far and wide, especially with any NHCC alums you may know. Having a child in the school is in no way a prerequisite for contributing!
