My mom has been the heart and backbone of our family her entire life. She raised us as a single mother and continues to put everyone first—supporting my older sister, her young autistic son, and caring for our grandmother—all while being the main provider for our household.
Recently, she suffered a serious fall and was diagnosed with cervical stenosis, degenerative disc disease, and severe arthritis in her neck and back. Her doctor has recommended urgent cervical laminectomy surgery from C3 to C7 to prevent paralysis and stop her condition from worsening.
I want to emphasize just how serious this surgery is: the doctor warned us that this is the most painful surgery he performs. He will remove the bone from C3 down to C7 to give her spinal cord more room, then insert screws from C2 down to T2 and place rods to fuse that portion of her spine. Without this fusion, her neck will continue to collapse over the next 5–10 years, worsening her condition and putting her at risk of paralysis.
The surgery requires 3–6 months of recovery, during which she cannot work. Without her income, our family risks falling behind on bills and even losing our home. My sister cannot manage all the caregiving alone, so we urgently need help covering the costs of surgery, recovery, and additional home support so my mom can focus on healing.
We are asking for any support you can give to the woman who has given everything for us. Every contribution helps keep our family safe, cared for, and together. Surgery is April first and we will keep this updated!
