This year has brought challenges our family never could have imagined. Hearing that our mother’s biopsy came back positive for cancer was a moment that changed our lives forever. These are words no family is ever prepared to hear.

Our mom has been a fighter her entire life. As a single mother, she carried every responsibility on her own and still gave us a life full of love, safety, and strength. She never gave up, no matter how hard things got. She is the foundation of our family. Now, she’s also a loving grandmother, and her grandchildren adore her. She is their comfort, their joy, their everything.

Since her diagnosis, she has been hospitalized multiple times. Watching her be taken into hospital rooms, hooked up to machines, and fighting just to regain her strength has been the most heartbreaking experience of our lives. Each hospitalization has taken a physical and emotional toll on her, but she continues to fight with everything she has.

She is now preparing to begin chemotherapy. While she is ready to fight with everything she has, the reality is that the medical expenses are quickly becoming more than our family can manage alone. Between chemotherapy treatments, hospital stays, medications, and ongoing care, the financial burden is overwhelming.

As much as my siblings and I have tried to keep family matters private, we are at point where we need our community.
