Our mom is the heart of our family—a single mother of five who has always put others before herself. She’s the kind of person who would give her last dollar to someone in need, and she’s spent her life caring for everyone around her. And if you know her/ have known her you’ve felt the love she has to offer to this world. To make it a better place. We’re posting this because she is someone who would never ask others for help, even when she’s drowning.

This past year, everything changed when she suddenly fell seriously ill. Her body literally began attacking itself and gave out. Out of nowhere, she was in and out of the hospital, 3 times in one week. We had to call EMS to our house early one morning as she was having symptoms of anaphylactic shock and a stroke. She then spent a month hospitalized at Duke and frequented there for the next three months. The doctors were confused by her case, struggled to figure it out (even with being some of the best doctors in the country) they were running test after test, and at one point, they told us to prepare for the worst. It was a terrifying time, not knowing if she would make it, and watching her fight for her life while the doctors searched for answers. After months they finally gave us a diagnosis.

Even after she pulled through, the challenges didn’t stop. The hospital bills piled up, and she was left with overwhelming health debt. Because she was so sick, she had to take work leave and only received a third of her usual pay. We barely managed to keep our house, struggling to cover rent and basic expenses. Every day is still a fight for our mom, as she’s now been diagnosed with three chronic illnesses that she’ll have to live with for the rest of her life. While she is healing, she is now living with multiple chronic challenges that have permanently affected her health, energy, and well-being. But by the grace of God, she’s still here with us, showing the same strength and love she always has.

We are asking for help from our community to support our mom as she continues her recovery. With ongoing medical care and recovery have drained her savings and left her struggling to cover everyday expenses. The funds raised will go directly toward her medical expenses, living costs, and helping our family find some stability during this difficult time. Despite everything, our mom continues to face each day with strength, kindness, and grace- she cannot do this alone anymore.
