Support for Our Friends Elizabeth and Dave

You may know that our loved one Elizabeth Guevara Laxamana and her family have been on a journey battling cancer since she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in August 2020. Unfortunately, the cancer has spread to her brain and she was in the hospital for an extended time to address symptoms that have made it difficult for her to walk, talk, and breathe on her own. She is currently at a sub-acute, skilled nursing facility and rehab center, as her symptoms have continued to worsen.

If you are like us, then the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Elizabeth is her strength. She is a fighter and is doing everything she can to overcome these challenges. Dave continues to be a wonderful partner to her and is giving her the care, love, and laughs that he always has. Their daughter is their ray of sunshine and continues to be their strongest source of joy.

They have a long road ahead and we want to reciprocate the love and generosity they have shown all of us. Dave and Elizabeth have touched so many lives at the many universities at which they have been educated and employed - UC Santa Cruz, Citrus College, UC San Diego, University of Vermont, UC Santa Barbara, Chapman University, Cal Poly Pomona - and within the communities for which they care - latinx, filipino, portuguese, first-generation college students, and their friends and family. They have expressed that they have everything they need for now, but we want to help them prepare should additional medical support be needed.
