Support for Our Friend Fred Cook

We are raising money for our dear friend Fred Cook, loving father of Adrionna Cook and husband of Christy Cook, of Saltspring Island, BC.
On Monday, November 13th, 2023, Fred suffered a massive stroke. He was airlifted from his home on Saltspring Island to Victoria General Hospital.
This was a major stroke that left brain damage. Any medical interventions are considered too risky to treat this unique and difficult stroke.
Fred had been undergoing cancer treatment over the last year. He was declared cancer-free a short time ago but was told he would need maintenance doses of immunotherapy for several years, since the cancer is a form that frequently returns. Then the stroke happened.
The doctors say Fred is unable to come home and will require intensive care indefinitely. They have also said his chance at any quality of life is increased with daily family support.
Our Intention with this fund is to support Fred, Christy, and Adrionna as they navigate this difficult time.
Fred’s daughter, Adrionna, will need to take a leave from work and move from Olympia, WA to Victoria to support Fred’s recovery and quality of life.
Family members will need to stay in Victoria in hotels for the coming weeks and months to be there for Fred, and may need to do significant travel between Saltspring Island and Victoria. If we raise enough, they will likely rent an apartment in Victoria to stretch the funds further.
We are starting with a goal of $25,000 which may increase as the situation develops and we know more. Anything we raise over our goal will go towards Fred's long term recovery.
