OK friends, as hard as it is to come to you to ask for anything, we have no option at this point. I know I have not updated much since I got back from UAB and honestly, it’s just because between the massive amounts of pain I’m in, the humiliation, the mental toll from all of it, and just really, not knowing what to ask for, it all just has us at a point of feeling paralyzed and like we are drowning.
To date, we have now had 15 different home health agencies deny me either due to insurance or my location, and that is with me reaching out to the insurance board, trying to get help from the state to push some of this through. Everybody, anybody who has reached out to us, with us, all options we have been given, all have failed up until now. We even tried getting a traveling PCP and there is one that covers our area but does not take my insurance nor do they have any room for new patients.
My name is swirling around the medical community like wildfire with so many people having their hands in and trying to help in any way they can. But it’s all failing! The medical system is failing me and my family. All we can do is sit back, wait on my IVIG therapy to start, and pray it helps because all avenues so far point to me never walking again, which is what multiple doctors have told me: “this is your new life.”
As of right now, our only option is a place called Advanced Senior Care, who was not in contract with my insurance, but the lady I have been speaking with, Taylor, wants to help my family so bad (“I have never wanted to help someone so badly in my life”) that she did the work to get in contract with my insurance company. However, my insurance company is only willing to pay them $18 an hour where they charge $32 an hour. That would leave us having to pay $14 an hour out-of-pocket. She said in order to make it worth her employees to come to my location at that price, I would need them up to six hours a day, three days a week. We cannot afford to pay them $14 an hour at those hours, especially since we have been drowning from all of the payments and fees since the start of everything I’ve had going on. This company is not home health; however, it will help my husband more than anything. They will help with things like showering me, taking me to appointments if needed, house cleaning, keeping up with the laundry, and more. Anything that Philip needs help with, with me or anything in my home, they will do. This will be a HUGE relief to my husband as he is at his breaking point. It will also be a relief to me as I struggle to be here alone with the kids while he has to work a full-time job. Being here alone has caused issues like accidents, positions I can’t get myself out of. It’s impossible for him to shower me as often as I need because passing out is a new feature I have and the pain is horrible. He just can’t do it alone. My kids can’t help me change a brief or clean me up. God never meant for a man to have to take care of three children, homeschool (I do as much as I can but he is left with the slack after work), all the house chores, working a full-time job, taking care of his wife full-time, which includes picking me up, moving me around, helping me on and off the toilet and in and out of the shower, cleaning my wounds, and so many more embarrassing things but things that nonetheless he needs help with. We NEED this aid company.
Although I hate asking for money, I told Philip that if everyone we knew sent even just $14, we could pay for treatment for some time. I know a lot of you have already given and we’re so very thankful. It has all gone to medications, scans, multiple appointments, co-pays, and medical supplies I have needed since being home. We’re just depleted. So if anyone feels led to help us get this aid company in here, we would appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts. Without your help, we cannot do this.
In addition to this home aid company, my sweet friend has also introduced me to a doctor/specialist PT that has a lot of knowledge about my diagnosis and thinks he can help. However, they do not take insurance. They are a self-pay company and my first visit will be $320. We are doing it, one because I need the evaluation to be able to get my wheelchairs. But also because he has awesome testimonials and at this point, we’re grasping at straws and still waiting on IVIG therapy. So your contribution would also go towards this if we get enough. Please help in any way you can.
I’m just going to put a few pictures so you can see part of what’s going on with me and what we’re trying to get help with. I cannot post them all as it’s graphic. I cannot explain in enough words the absolutely excruciating pain I am in at all times. Not to mention we’re still expecting the spinal fluid to build back up on my brain with a surgery to follow. The moduling you see, according to the neurologist at UAB, is from the pressure of me laying on my backside with constant spasms. Some of the sores are pressure sores. Some are blisters from small fiber neuropathy, and some are blisters from my Skyrizi infusions, heightening my small fiber neuropathy, causing the blistering to run up my back and all over my body, including inside my mouth, which causes the skin in my mouth to peel out and my mouth to be raw. My fingers, chest, face, thighs, and armpits, my scalp is covered in sores from raw blisters, and there is so much more. I just wanted everybody who has been trying to follow along with me to have an update and have a small picture of what they are praying for and what their money is going towards. I love you all and I thank you for praying for me. I’m still holding on strong to my faith and believing that when God is done using me, he will heal me no matter what the doctors say.
