Support for Our Family While Our Son’s in the Hospital

My 3 month old son Samuel was hospitalized on the 24th of April for seizures. During his ER visit, he stopped breathing and turned blue during a seizure. Afterwards, he was life flighted to ABQ and admitted to the PICU. For several days he was having seizures with apneic episodes and turning blue, over and over again he had to be bagged to get his oxygen saturation levels back up. His doctors decided the best course of action was to intubate him so that even when he seized he would be getting oxygen so that he would not go into cardiac arrest. He has been on a ventilator for almost a week now, the doctors don’t want to take him off the vent until he goes 24 hours without seizures (they originally wanted it to be 48 hours) and he just can’t seem to make it that long. Samuel isn’t responding well to any of the medications they’ve tried, he’s on several, and still seizing multiple times a day.

We spoke to a doctor towards the end of last week who told my wife and I that Samuel will probably be in the hospital for at least two or three more weeks. During this time, we have been away from home in Albuquerque and I have been unable to work. We are quickly running out of funds to pay bills and to support ourselves while we are staying in Albuquerque with our son, and as of right now it doesn’t seem like he will be discharged any time soon.
