This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write.

I've been diagnosed with Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL). The treatment plan is long and demanding, and I’ll need my wife, Amy, to drive me to every appointment. That means she’ll only be able to work limited hours on weekends — and even that depends on how sick treatment makes me.

I’m medically retired from the U.S. Army and on a fixed income. It covers the basics, but everything that keeps our family going day to day — groceries, gas, clothing for the kids, school lunches — comes from Amy’s income. Losing that support is frightening, especially when our kids still need stability and normalcy during all of this.

We are trying to stay strong for them. We are trying to keep life as normal as possible. But the truth is, this diagnosis is going to hit us hard, and we can’t absorb it alone.

I’ve spent my life serving — as a Florida state corrections officer, and later in the U.S. Army. I’ve always tried to carry my own weight and avoid asking for help. But now, I need it. My family needs it.
