On August 18, our family’s life changed in an instant when a large tree fell through our home during severe storms.
The damage is significant, affecting two bedrooms and leaving our home unsafe and unlivable. At the time the tree came down, McKenna and her caregiver were in one of the bedrooms. McKenna was trapped in her bed by the debris, but thankfully we were able to get her out safely. Her caregiver was also okay, and we are incredibly grateful that no one was seriously injured.
McKenna is our 24-year-old daughter who has significant special needs and requires around-the-clock care and supervision. She is nonverbal and has multiple disabilities, and maintaining a safe, familiar environment and keeping all of her equipment and care needs together is extremely important for her.
Right now, we are trying to find another place for our family to stay as we figure out our next steps.
We have renters insurance and have filed a claim with Allstate, but we don’t yet know how quickly the process will move or how much assistance we will receive.
In the meantime, we are facing the immediate costs of temporary housing, food, transportation, moving and storing our belongings, replacing items damaged by the storm, and making sure McKenna has everything she needs.
We never expected to be in this position, and asking for help is not easy. We are simply trying to keep our family safe and get through this unexpected crisis while we work to rebuild our lives.
If you are able to donate, any amount would mean more to us than we can put into words. If you aren’t able to give, sharing this fundraiser would help us tremendously.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, for praying for our family, and for helping us get through this difficult time. ❤️
