He is still here! I thank God everyday for that! He made it, he survived. My brother is a cancer survivor! He was diagnosed with brain cancer at 15 years old, and despite knocking on heaven’s door, he survived! But people don’t often get to see what comes after survival. The toll beating cancer can take on a young person’s still developing body. My brother went through brain surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. During recovery he married the love of his life and they have been together for over 10 years! His fight with cancer inspired him to become a registered nurse. For the past six years he has worked as a pediatric nurse. He spends his days/nights making kids laugh, keeping them comfortable, safe, calm, and above all making them feel better! And he loves it!
For the last two years, he has had pain in his hips that has been getting progressively worse. He had an MRI and met with orthopedic specialists afterward. This is where he needs help. He needs to get a double hip replacement. He isn’t even 30 yet and his doctor says he has the hips of a 75 year old. He has been diagnosed with avascular necrosis in both of his femurs. It is a condition where the blood supply to the femur is compromised and the bone begins to die and collapse upon itself. The doctors say it most likely developed as a long term side effect of the chemo and radiation therapy.
But here is the good news.....after they are both replaced, he will start to feel like himself again! But until then, he will be out of work after each surgery with no pay. They will replace each hip one at a time. There will be a recovery time of 6 weeks per hip and 2 months between where he can return to work. It is going to be a rough journey and any help would be amazing. We are hoping to raise money to offset the costs of the surgeries and help pay some bills. Every little bit counts. Even prayers! Prayer is powerful! I want him to come out of this even better then he went in! Thank you for your support. Updates will be posted as appropriate.
