I never thought I'd be in this position, yet here I am...
There's some hard stuff to talk about, so overlook the twisted humor unless you like that sort of thing.
My health has gone to hell recently. Really, the last couple of months have been rough to say the least. About a year ago, i had abdominal pain and went to the ER. An 80 year old doctor that looked like Wario told me I had cirrhosis, but the other doctors didn't make it seem that way and treated me for a GI infection and sent me on my way.
Exactly a year later, I found myself back at the ER for similar reasons. While waiting to be seen, I stepped outside to get away from someone puking their brains out in a plastic bag. Next thing I knew, I had gallons of blood and clots flying out of my mouth full on exersist style. I thought I skipped all the bad genes but it looks like I, unlike my brothers get to keep my hair but that's about it. Turns out Dr Wario was right and not only did I piss off my liver, but the damage had also gone to my GI tract. He went in and found 6 veins and/or arteries had burst in there and put little rubber bands on them to stop the bleed. I was released just in time for all the Thanksgiving hoopla. I made it though that, but a couple of weeks after, more signs of a bleed. Back to the hospital I went and got to see Dr Wario again. Turns out he doesn't look like Wario at all when sober; alcohol and hospital pain relievers apparently activate something in the imagination. This time he decided to check things out from both ends to make sure I wasn't like the car that keeps coming back for the same noise but doesn't do it when a mechanic is there. I got my first enema experience and thought "dumb asses actually pay for this" then realized that I was probably paying top dollar for something on the clearance table at the dollar store. Anyway, 5 more rubber bands and a week at Cottonwood's only all inclusive lodging and I'm free again just in time for Christmas.
Literally after being released Monday afternoon before Christmas, the Thursday after I was on my way once again. I got hooked up to an IV for fluids and before the fluids even got into me, the doc came in to give me two options: drive to Phoenix for care or be loaded in a fancy van with lights on it to take me there. I got to spend a week in a higher end all inclusive place- Mayo Clinic. The whole team at Mayo was amazing, even knowing that I wasn't insured to be there.
So here's the medical run down at the moment:
- I have cirrhosis, which is affecting my gall bladder, pancreas and spleen as their bile ducts are being pinched causing constant pain.
- There's still active GI bleeding, enough to be seen in a CT scan, but not enough to find the source of the bleed and operate at this time.
- The GI bleed and inflamed spleen has my hemoglobin and platelet counts crazy low, but not quite low enough to need blood transfusion. This also means I bruise and bleed easier while having diminished clotting ability.
- Multiple trips to the valley for continued care, testing and treatment are inevitable.
I haven't worked since November 12 with the exception of 2 days in the middle somewhere. Bills are starting to pile up and I'm digging through all of the resources available to a young, single person with no kids. The list is short.
Anyway, cash raised will go towards medical bills not covered, bills, and hauling my butt to the doctor in Phoenix. Seriously, anything helps
