In January of 2022, we went through an event that forever changed our lives. I experienced a severe seizure while at home and was rushed to KU Med by ambulance. That led to testing that showed my cancer had spread to my brain. Since then, I have undergone two brain surgeries, brain radiation, physical therapy, speech therapy, and ongoing mental health therapy for depression and PTSD. Currently, I am on chemo and will continue treatment indefinitely.

Cancer has also impacted my career and our finances. Due to the severity of my illness, I quit working in 2024. I have taken a significant pay cut due to being on disability income.

We had been managing everything as best we could until we recently learned that we need to pay a significant amount to repair our home’s foundation.
