On December 21, 2025, off-duty Puyallup Tribal Law Enforcement Officer Nikya W., his pregnant wife, and daughters aged 3 and 5 were on their way to church when they were struck by another driver eluding a traffic stop while entering the 512 on-ramp in Puyallup. (The driver is currently in police custody and facing multiple vehicular assault charges. It is unknown if he is insured.)
The impact of the collision was between the front and rear passenger side of their car where Nikya’s wife and 3-year-old daughter were sitting.
Nikya’s 3-year-old daughter sustained head trauma, causing her to lose consciousness and requiring CPR on the scene by a witness who reportedly is a nurse, but I will call her “Angel,” until paramedics arrived.
Nikya was unable to perform CPR due to his right shoulder having been dislocated in the accident.
Nikya’s wife was pinned in the car and had to be extracted by Central Pierce Fire and Rescue through the back hatch of their vehicle.
All family members were taken to Mary Bridge and Tacoma General Hospital in 4 separate ambulances.
Nikya’s wife suffered a broken pelvis and sacrum and had to have an emergency C-section at 27 weeks gestation. She underwent additional surgery on the 22nd to place screws in her pelvis. She is still hospitalized and will be non-ambulatory for the next 6-8 weeks. Her release date is unknown at this time, and it will be several months of physical therapy prior to and when she begins walking again. She is self-employed and receives no FMLA benefits.
The 3-year-old remains at Mary Bridge Pediatric ICU being treated for skull fractures and a traumatic brain injury. Her release is unknown at this time, as is the prognosis of any long-term brain damage.
The 6-year-old was treated and released, sustaining soft tissue contusions on the left side of her body.
In addition to his dislocated shoulder that was reset at TG, Nikya’s lower back was fractured. He has been discharged from the hospital. It is unknown when he will return to work due to his injuries.
The newborn baby girl, weighing only 2 lbs 4 oz, is fighting to survive in Neonatal Intensive Care at TG. Aside from being born 12 weeks early, the baby’s head sustained contusions from the impact of the injuries to the mother.
She is being monitored closely for seizure activity and brain swelling by pediatric neurologists. She will remain hospitalized at minimum until mid-March 2026, which was her expected birthdate.
Nikya and his family would benefit greatly from any help provided at this time, both immediate and long term, as medical updates are being made daily.
